NH Fall Foliage 2014

The day before Colombus Day we went for a drive in southwestern/southcentral New Hampshire to view the foliage.

We drove a 130-mile loop: Nashua > Goffstown > Hillsboro > Nelson > Harrisville > Dublin > Jaffrey > Peterborough > Wilton.

The foliage was rated 60% peak (in the Nashua area) to 100% peak (in the Lake Sunapee/Monadnock areas) according to local news reports. However it appeared very muted this year; it's been a very warm fall (no frost yet) which slows down the colors.

The weather was nice, in the high 60's, clear and sunny all day. All-in-all a very enjoyable day.

1. Granite Lake along the north edge of Nelson.

2. There was some color, but more green then anything else.

3. Harrisville Pond (on the way to Dublin).

4. Harrisville Town Cemetary.

5. Outflow from the pond into downtown Harrisville which flows into Skatutakee Lake, then into Nubanusit Brook which eventually flows into the Contoocook in Jaffrey.

6. A young couple posing for formal portrait. Engagement? Christmas Card?

7. Small cottage overlooking Dublin Lake.

8. Abandoned home, over a century old along Route 101 in Dublin. I've been intriged by this place for years.

9. Couple fishing in Dublin Lake with Mt. Monadnock in the background.

10. View of the mountain from the east (near the state park).

11. "Scarecrows on the Common" in Jaffrey.

12. Another scarecrow fishing in the headwaters of the Contoocook River.

13. Stony Brook in Wilton where it flows into the Souhegan.
